What is Bringing Our People Together?
(BOPT for short)

BOPT is a concept that teaches our people how to do better, do better more often, do better in more areas of their lives, and do better for others. It helps them do better:

  1. Professionally (as an employee or business owner)

  2. Financially (eliminating debt, building net worth, and earning income from assets),

  3. Economically (spreading your success throughout the community)

  4. Generationally (making your wealth and success impact your great grandchildren).

What makes the concept different is that it does not focus on the problems; conversely, it exclusively focuses on the behavior of the individual.  The goal is to provide information, methods, and techniques to enhance each individual and the entire community.

Who are "Our People"?

Our people are not simply people who are Black. Our people are people who have these six things in common.

Our people:

  1. Want to do better in all areas of their life

  2. Believe they have the ability and the power to do better

  3. Know it is their responsibility to do better and that no one can do as much for them as they can do for themselves

  4. Know that the best way to do better is by providing value to their employers, clients, and society

  5. Want to spread their success and wealth throughout their community so others can do better

  6. Want to make their success last for generations

When I was called to create BOPT, I realized I was not called to be the sole source of the material or presenter of information.  I was to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge “Our People” have.  That is why some of “Our People” are the largest corporations and universities in this country.  Others are successful business owners, industry experts, those who have climbed the corporate ladder, speakers, and coaches. But the largest group of “Our People” are those who seek the information, skills, techniques, mindsets, and behaviors that lead to freedoms that will last for generations.

The result is that BOPT is a way of bringing together those who provide quality professional, financial, and economic information with those who seek and will use quality information.

About the 2009 Annual Conference

This year’s conference will kick-off Friday, May 22 at 5:00 p.m. and will conclude on Saturday, May 23 at 3:00 p.m. Our 2009 partners include True Networking Thursdays (TNT), the Rochester Black Business Association (RBBA), the Western NY chapter of the Black MBA Association (WNYBMBAA), African American Leadership Development Program (AALDP) and Paychex.

Our goal is to make this one of the greatest networking weekends in the history of Rochester. We believe networking is a valuable tool to create or enhance personal and group success. All of the above named groups are working to create an event that will help you accomplish this year’s event theme of…

Making the Recession Work for You!

The only thing the entire country agrees on is that we are in an economic downturn or a recession. For many individuals and businesses a recession means doom and destruction or to passively sit and wait for things to get better. It also means the majority of individuals and businesses will have to work twice as hard to achieve the same result. But in every recession there is a small percentage of people who actually flourish during or after an economic downturn.
We want you to be one of the few who flourish!

With the help of our presenters and partners, we will look at the mindsets, strategies, and behaviors of these three groups to determine what really separates those who flourish in or after a recession from all the others. When this conference is done, attendees will know what they can do to flourish in or just after the 2009 recession.
who Will Attend?

Based on the 2008 conference, this year’s conference will attract an audience that is primarily:

  1. African American (95% or greater)

  2. Professionally employed or is a business owner (85% or greater)

  3. Ages 30 – 54 (85% or greater)

  4. Female (about 65%)
